70 International Guests to Judge the Latvian Theater Showcase

From April 26-29, the Latvian Theater Showcase in Rīga will present a selection of last season's best performances, which will be judged by 68 guests from 15 countries.
Selected by the Latvian New Theater Institute in association with theatres and directors, the show lays a special emphasis on innovative work displaying the latest developments in Latvian theatre which could interest foreign audiences.
The program includes the latest productions by Alvis Hermanis at New Rīga Theatre – Oblomov (2011) and Onegin (2012) – as well as two productions from the National Theater: Woyzeck (2012) by Russian guest director Kirill Serebrennikov and Prayer to the Fat Lady (2011) by local director Pēteris Krilovs.
The Latvian Theater Showcase also introduces the young generation of Latvian dance makers and theater directors: Valters Sīlis, Inese Mičule, Andrejs Jarovojs, Vladislavs Nastavševs.
The Showcase is intended for professional international audiences and all the shows will be presented with a translation into English.
Along with the showcase, the guests will have a chance to learn about the independent theatres in Rīga and meet their directors and producers, as well as watch Kolka Cool, the latest film by Juris Poškus.
Among the guest will be Matthias Pees, chief dramaturg of the Vienna Festival; Brigitte Fürle, former artistic curator of the Berlin Festival; Caren Schlewitt and Roger Merguin, directors of Theaterhaus Gessnerallee and Kaserne Basel; and others.
